Final challenge day, vintage.

The challenge is officially over, this is my last outfit for the month and I am kind of relieved! Tomorrow I plan on barely even turning my mind to what I wear and throwing on some leggings and an over sized jumper, I cannot wait. I have to say though I am really happy with this outfit, the skirt is so nineties, but I am hoping that paired with the blazer I didn't get completely lost in the era. I also managed to get in two vintage pieces with a necklace that belonged to my nan which is almost the same colour as the skirt.

I will write up a little challenge review over the next couple of days. I know for certain though any future challenges like this will be for a week and not a month!

An oldie: Sheer, day 25

This weekend our housemate, who we have lived with for over four years, moved out and headed to Melbourne for new adventures. We had drinks and dinner on Friday night and waved goodbye on Saturday. I have to say I am pretty sad about it, we kind of became a little family over the last few years and we both keep expecting her to walk through the door. Very excited for her though and all the new experiences she will have.

Apart from that I barely did anything this weekend, I watched lots of documentaries and read my book, sometimes it is nice to just do nothing at all! I have to say though I am tired today from staying up and watching the olympics last night. I am really not into sports at all but the olympics sucks me in.

How did you spend your weekend?

Shopping tidbits: Find a sale

Photobucket
collage-1
As you probably know, from reading this blog, I am a little bit of a shopaholic! I thought that it might be a good idea to start sharing some of my shopping tips, favourite stores and other fun shopping related tidbits with you. Right now is a great time to start buying clothes for spring and summer from stores in the Northern Hemisphere as they are going to start putting their summer stock on sale (and vice versa for stores down here).

Love clothing currently has 50% off for the next 48 hours which is a really great deal! I ended up picking up the first two dresses above which have been in my shopping bag since December. They also have free shipping to Aus if you spenf over 30 pounds.

Topshop currently has free world wide shipping until Sunday 12pm. I have my eye on the handbag above!

Modcloth has lots of gorgeous summer dresses that are now on sale. I have a few in my wishlist but especially love the last two dresses posted above.

Looking for something vintage? The lovely store Fancy Treehouse has 50% off this weekend with the code AUGUST. Plus if you spend over $150 shipping is free!

Have you heard of any good deals that are happening at the moment, I am always happy to be tempted!

Why I...don't like cooking

winetime

Lets start with the fact that I love food! I love eating, I love looking at food (I have more recipe books than I have socks) and I especially love the atmosphere that sharing good food creates. Some of my favourite memories are triggered by certain foods. Pizza in Italy, ice cream on the beach as a kid and ham at Christmas.

However, when it comes to actually cooking the food I start losing interest. Every year I resolve to try and invigorate my cooking passion and every year I don't make it past January. I think the problem is that I am more excited about the idea of cooking than actually cooking itself. There are a number of reasons why I don't like cooking but here are the main three....

oNE Our kitchen is matchbox size, there is one tiny little bit of working space and barely any room to do anything. It makes it complicated to make anything more difficult than a stir fry.

tWO Being in the kitchen can take you away from the socialising. I get stressed when I am cooking for a lot of people and tend to spend the whole time in the kitchen stressing about how bad dinner is going to be. I am much better out at the table chatting and serving the wine instead of pretending I know what I am doing.

tHREE I am impatient. A recipe with more than a handful of steps and I have lost interest before I have even started. Or if I have to boil something for 20 minutes I usually decide that 15 minutes will do.

I think in the long run though it just comes down to the fact I am just not that great at cooking and maybe that's okay. I wish I could end this post saying I am going to try and cook more and be more experimental but the truth is I think its time to just accept that cooking is not my forte and just concentrate on the eating! Do you like cooking or are you happy to just sample the fruit of someone else's labour?

Day 24, its all downhill from here

Day 24 means there is only 7 days left of my outfit challenge. I have to say I am kind of looking forward to wardrobe freedom, it has got a little tiresome trying to pull something together every day and some days I really just want to pull on jeans and a jumper. I really admire bloggers who come up with fresh and original outfits nearly every day, I am far too lazy.

However this little challenge has made me put together outfits I might never have done before. For example this outfit is so bright and today was a work day but I braved it and got lots of nice comments about there being colour in the office and one comment about looking like an Ecuadorian flag.

I am starting a new feature on my blog tomorrow, I hope you guys enjoy it!

Day 23: Flowy (noting that it is opposites day)

IMG_2004
cardigan: cocolatte // shoes: macys // blouse: dotti // necklace: sportsgirl

Did you ever play opposites day in primary school? It was that annoying day where anything you said could be chopped, changed, turn around and used against you. For example "Please pass me the red crayon?" And you would receive every other colour but the red. I was a pretty serious kid so this sort of stuff drove me a little insane.

Anyway today the last thing I felt like wearing for my first day back at work was something floaty instead I wanted something a bit more formal so I decided that today, like when I was seven years old, was opposites day and instead went for a more tailored look. Much like opposites day I wasnt really over the moon with this outfit but thought I would share it anyway as you cant always like everything you put together.

Day 22: Belt

Boots: target // skirt: pumpanickle vintage // cardigan: cocolatte // bag: portmans // belt: alannah hill

Today I braved taking outfit photos for the first time in public. This is just a little park up from my house and no one was there so maybe it was a good place to start my foray into the big wide world. It is a little bit embarrassing walking around with a tripod taking photos of yourself but than I am more than happy to put them all over the internet, it doesn't really make sense.

I wore this outfit on Friday night and didn't realise how low cut this top was till I looked at these photos, whoops! The skirt is vintage and from the lovely store Pumpanickle Vintage which I got the pleasure of visiting in person while we were down the Coast.

Back to work tomorrow, I hope you have had a lovely weekend!

Brendan and I spent the last week in Terrigal  on the central coast, having a little vacation before we go back to work next week. We have been together for five and a half years and never been on a holiday together. We have been away together with friends or family or on weekends away but this was our first real holiday and it was so good to just relax and spend time together. We slept in, ate good food (lots of seafood for me) and went on little adventures. My favourite thing was going to the waterfalls at Sommersby, I love waterfalls i find them really relaxing and calming, I wanted to go swimming there but the water was freezing! We are back home now and have one more day before we have to go back to reality which I think will be full of washing, grocery shopping and just enjoying being back at home.

A full heart

I am currently away visiting my parents and Brendan’s parents, it is so cold here it surprises me that somewhere can be colder than Canberra. Today we went and saw our brand new baby niece Annabelle. She is absolutely beautiful and we both are completely in love with her, I honestly could have looked at her for hours. I don’t think anything beats baby cuddles.

These photos were taken yesterday and I just realised that yesterday I was one big walking billboard for Kmart, I do love Kmart though so I don’t mind too much. This look was for day 11 of my challenge which was spots. I have to say that packing for this challenge for ten days away was pretty epic but I am determined to make it to the end! Only 19 days to go…

So I have definitely made up for my lack of shopping in June within the first 10 days of July. I managed to pay my credit card off in June and now I have put it away until an emergency, not even including a shoe or clothing emergencies, I am going to be strong.
I have officially joined the sisterhood with my first eyelash curler, but to be honest I cannot really tell the difference! Eeck maybe I am not using it properly but I will persevere for a little longer.
If you would like to see more of what I bought I have put a video on my YouTube channel

Girls weekend

This weekend I headed to Sydney to celebrate my mums birthday. We had such a good time we got massages and had our nails done and went shopping, the perfect girls weekend and the best way I can think of to start my two weeks holiday.

We of course ate lots of yummy food, when we all get together the thing we do best is eat. We visited a delicious French patisserie and also went out for Spanish tapas and Leah was chosen to dance with the flamenco dancers in front of half the restaurant. I have to say I was pretty impressed with her moves and courage, there is no way you could have got me up there.

The weather was also beautiful all weekend! I was even walking around without a jacket this afternoon. Which didn't really work well when today's challenge prompt was layers, oh well I am definitely not complaining about the sunny warm weather.

I think my mum had a nice time and it was so nice to get to spend time with three of my favourite ladies. Now I am looking forward to our road trip in August! How was your weekend?

And that is a wrap

IMG_1038

Just a quick post today to show I am still going strong with the challenge. I have no idea what I was thinking when I decided that 'wrap' would be a good prompt. Luckily the trusty head wrap I wear in the mornings seemed to fit the bill. It has been -5 here in the mornings and it is an absolute struggle to get out of bed and leave the comfort of my electric blanket.

Oh and look how fancy I am finally having my photos all the same width! I have been blogging for nearly three years and only just realised where I was going wrong. Maybe in the next three years I will figure out how to move my header further up the page!

Day 3: Animal & learning to destress

IMG_0945
Photobucket
skirt: portmans // boots: target // jacket: sunnygirl // scarf: myer // shirt: asos

Work has been quite stressful and busy the last few weeks. Looming deadlines have resulted in long days and a feeling of complete exhaustion by the time I get home. I usually go to the gym at lunchtime or after work but lately I have been skipping it to get more work done or to go home and crash on the lounge. Tonight I was  determined to make it to bootcamp. I made it with 30 seconds to spare and so glad I did, exercise is really one of my biggest stress releases and I need to remember to prioritise that more often, I am sure other people will appreciate a happier, less stressed version of my current self. How do you like to destress?

Day 2: Monochrome

IMG_0906

When setting yourself a challenge it is always wise to actually understand what you are actually challenging yourself to do. I woke up this morning and I thought I don't even actually know what monochrome means. I kind of thought that it meant dark colours but on further research found out that it means one colour or shades of a colour. I wish I had a really bright, fun colour to do this with but black is really the only colour I can dress in from head to toe.

I actually have lots of ideas for posts at the moment, I am feeling inspired to blog, so I might even have a few days where I have two posts up, wow that feels a little crazy! Right now though I am planning on getting into bed early because it is freezing and watching a documentary of some sort before an early night. I hope that Monday treated you well!

Challenge day 1: Stripes

shirt & shoes: target // skirt and jacket: kmart

This morning I freaked out thinking why did I start this challenge with stripes, when I have no stripey clothes? I went to my wardrobe and within 30 seconds had found over 6 pieces of stripey clothes! I couldn't help but pair two pieces together to give the illusion of a stripey dress. I love that this challenge is already helping me rediscover my wardrobe, I honestly thought I owned two pieces of stripey clothing eeck no more!

I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today, Brendan has man flu which causes him to snore. I cannot stand snoring! I can remember being on a family holiday and sleeping in the bath one night because I couldn't handle my mums snoring. It meant that I slept for most of the day to make up for a lack of sleep last night. I than went to the shops for a little retail therapy and than made nachoes for dinner and watched the block. So happy Brad and Lara won!

I took these photos in my new room which I might not do again because of the shadows but it is a good space when the weather is bad outside. I hope you have a had a good weekend, I have 5 days of work before 2 weeks holiday!

P.S The first of July, what?!!?
