Presents and Postcards

Today I bought my first two postcards for post crossing.I cheated a little bit because I ended up buying my two people the same postcard but it was so cute and suited both of their profiles. I cant wait till they get them I hope it doesnt take too long to get to them. One is going to Finand and one to the USA.

I have a friends 22nd Birthday tonight and it is so hard to get her a present. She is one of my friends who has left the student world and has a really great fulltime job so can always buy what she wants. I ended up getting her a friendship inspiration book full of photos and quotes and that way it shows how much I appreciate and love her.
I also got my sister a book for our first pckage swap "The Happiest day of my life" by Gillie and Marc Schattner which is such a cute little inspirational book about living life to the full. She is in the middle of exams at the moment so I hope that it will bring a smile to her face.

"If I were to make a speech in praise of you, in gratitude, in deep affection, you would turn an alarming shade of crimson and try to escape. So I won't. Take it all as said." - Marion C. Garretty

" Only when Harry lives each day of his life as if it's his last can he rediscover the joy in life"

I think books can make such wonderful present because people can treasure them forever and I love writingg little notes on the inside so they can look back and remember what the book meant to them at that time in their life.

Stationery to sooth my dying brain

It seems all my time at the moment studying for exams and wishing I had some of this lovely stationery to help me through *sigh*

Photos: http://thelark.blogspot.com

I absolutely adore the Happy Days diary but had already bought the Kikki K Diary in the middle. Luckily I love it to and next year will definately be going for one of the Happy Days ones.
(Note to self: stop looking at stationery and actually study)

Bloody scary movie...Paranormal activity

One of my friends won free tickets to go and see Paranormal activity, I am not a fan of scary movies but considering it was free I tagged along. It was quite possibly one of the scariest movies I have ever seen and this is saying alot considering there was no blood or guts and you never even saw the paranormal being that was haunting the people. The film is like the Blair witch project in the fact that the filming is being done by the characters in the movie which makes it so much scarier because it seems real. The movie was shot by Peli, an Israeli born movie maker three years ago, and cost only $11,000. As far as horror movies ago it was a good change of pace to the Hollywood million dollar blockbusters think Scream, I know what you did last summer etc.
If you like scary movies go and see it, I think you would really enjoy it. If not stay at home under the covers!

Springtime walk

One of my favourite things about the weather warming up is being able to go for walks again in the afternoons in winter I literally hibernate for 3 months. I talk these photos on my walk this afternoon up to the nature reserve behind our house. If I had a better camera you would be able to see parliment house in the background. Anywhoo I'm off to the movies. See you chickens!

Outfit post

I never really planned on sharing my outfits on my blog but today i decided I must because I love this new skirt. I am so into floral this season! Working in a corporate environment means I usually have to wear pretty boring clothes (think black on black but today i lashed out and even wore it to work. Best thing it was only $20 from Cotton On and I think it is going to be one of my summer staples.
Sorry about the blurry pic had the camera on the wrong setting, story of my life.
Hope everyone is enjoying the lovely spring weather!

Oh wait I forgot something......

MANGOES

How delicious are mangoes? They are my absolute favourite fruit and they dont stay in season for very long so try and eat as many as you can!

Laziness and loving

Poor old neglected blog but I do have good excuses with my trip to Melbourne and alot of uni work going on at the moment. Melbourne was so lovely I just adore that city and the great shopping and food. I love that you can take a wrong turn and end up in an alley of little treasures. We didnt end up going to the Caulfield cup because of the rain which was a shame but we ended up having a great afternoon anyway. We had a picnic on my friends lounge room floor decked out in all our races gear with the races on the tele. It was just as fantastic as really being there. So due to my lack of writing I thought I would share some of the lovely things I have enjoyed this week:

- Typo is a great new stationery store I found while in Melbourne. It is a chain so will be opening up in other areas but the website wasnt very helpful. If it is one thing I can not resist it is stationery and I ended up getting a really cute passport wallet. Hopefully it will open in Canberra soon, not that we probably need any more stationery stores but i wouldnt be complaining.
- The colour Mustard even though were in the middle of Spring it has still been pretty chilly in Canberra and when I saw a girl wearing a mustard jacket yesterday I feel in love all over again. It is such a great Autumn/ Winter colour and warmed me up just seeing it hopefully this weather wont be around for to much longer.

- Glee when I first saw this show advertised i must admit I felt a little ill with how ummm "gleeful" it looked but now I absolutely adore it. The characters are really well constructed and the plotline keeps you interested but not so susfensful (I think i just made that word up) that you cant sleep at night, clearly I get way to involved in the tv shows I watch. Its a good show to watch if you just want to tune out for awhile + the dances are pretty impressive too.

-The Lark blogspot is so cute and inspriring. I am not at all crafty but I love looking at other peoples work and ideas and it definately encourages me to endeavour into more craft related projects. Check out her online shop there are so many pieces that I now have on my wishlist.

- Swapping! I have been reading on a few blogs about "swapping" and decided to do something similar. So my sister and I are now sending each other fortnightly packages with random items we find for each other. I also couldnt resist getting involved in A girl and her blog's holiday swap very excited for my first real swapping adventure. To get involved check out her blog.

The age old smacking dilemma.

A Melbourne mother has been warned that she can be arrested with assualt if she continues to smack her daughter with a wooden spoon. This is one of those debates that seem to arise every couple of years should people be able to smack their children? As the law stands I think parents are allowed to use reasonable force to discipline their kids. However is this really sending out the correct message to our children. As Francis O'Brien said tonight on the 7pm project dad can hit you, dad cant hit me, you cant hit your sister, I can hit your sister (something like that) which blurs childrens construction of reality. People always say "I was smacked and I turned out alright" well I was smacked when I was little and threatened with the wooden spoon but I dont think that's what made me turn out "alright". Having a loving family who take the time to discuss behavioural issues and help you to make the right decisions in life is what makes you a good person not being smacked. What do you think?

From the shopping trolley

So went shopping today which I havent done for ages but decided I needed supplies for Melbourne. Have decided not to buy a new dress and am wearing an oldie but a goodie so was looking for a bag and fascinator. Initially I was looking for a red fascinator because my dress is red and thought I would try and channel the black outfit from a couple of posts ago but there was not many red ones and any that there were clashed with my dress. Anywhoo here is what I bought.....

Glomesh bag from Target I had been looking for one for ages but the vintage ones I could find were quite expensive so am happy with my target one for $30.

I very rarely shop at diva unless their having one of their great sales were everything is $5. I couldnt walk past this necklace and the ring will go perfectly with my races outfit.

Saying that though I also picked up this headband from there for the races. I had been planning on getting a very elaborate fascinator but I think this will look good with my hair pulled back and go for a simple and sleek look instead.

Stopping to smell the roses

On Saturday night, the boyfriend and I were heading out to a 21st that was about 30kms out of town. As per usual I was running late and quickly scribbled down the directions from the email and ran out the door, 50 minutes later we couldnt find the property for the life of us (possibly because I missed direction number 5). I was just about to lose it and turn the car around and head back home when Brendan turned to me and said "Maybe we were meant to get lost so we wouldnt miss this beautiful sunset." Its good to be reminded to stop and see the world around you, I hadn't even noticed the sunset. While it definately cheered me up it still took another 20 minutes to find the party.

Caulfield Cup: what to wear?

*photos from fashionising.com

So I am lucky enough to be heading down to Melbourne on Friday for the Caulfield Cup (insert yelp of excitement). The weekend will be filled with shopping, sparkling wine, good friends and racing. However, this always leads to the predicament of what to wear? I am absolutely loving the Spring Carnival fashion at the moment especially the florals and pastels. I adore pretty/girly things so this seasons dresses are right up my alley.. I have found a few dresses from Forever New (I find these dresses usually flatter my body shape) that are definately possibilities. I love the two floral ones in the middle especially the headband on the second girl but the black is so fierce and strong! I dont think i could pull off the purple one on the end but I still think its pretty.Oh the dilemma's! What do you think? What is your spring carnival fashion picks for this season? Will have to keep you updated with the final outfit.

Have you got your SIGG water bottle?

Oh my gosh how much do I love my SIGG waterbottle? So much that I had to tell you guys about it. You may have seen a few people walking around with them but I think their going to be HUGE. The photo above is the bottle I was lucky enough to snag whilst in Switzerland in July (my adventure that I saved up for years for).
There are three great reasons to get one:
1. There economical - no more paying up to $3 for a bottle of water
2. There environmentally friendly, reducing our landfills which is always a plus
3. There designs are super cute -everyone comments on them which is not only fun but has given me great chrissie and bday ideas
Check out all the amazing designs at tesora.com.au and go to the SIGG waterbottle section.
I have left you with two of my fav Switzerland photos to cure any Mondayitis!

How gorgeous are their houses it makes me want flower boxes out the front of my windows!

Read this book now...The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

Wow! I just finished reading this book the other day and I loved it. It is the only book written by poet Sylvia Plath before she committed suicide. The book is set in the early 1950's and follows the journey of Esther an aspiring writer and her struggle with depression. I think what really drew me into this book is that you were getting a glimpse into the authors own personal struggles in the time leading up to her death. Whether or not that was her motive or not I am not sure but that was my personal experience from the book. Its a great short novel and will only take you a couple of hours to read on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Please let me know if you read it/ have read it would love to hear what you thought. Any suggestions for my next read would be much appreciated!

Welcome....

Well what do I say? I am extremely excited to finally be starting my own blog. A friend of mine got me addicted to blogs a few months ago and I havent looked back since. I think it is definately time to start your own blog when things happen in your life and you constantly think "damn I wish I had a blog to share this with people". Thats why this blog has no genre as such but is more a collection of things that I want to share with people in the hope that they can get as much enjoyment out of them as I do.
The reason it took me quite a while to start this blog was developing a name for it that I thought would do it justice...this has literally taken me weeks. Anyway I had finally decided this morning on a name and I was so excited and couldnt wait to get started and when i typed it in it was of course taken....grrrr. When I looked up the blog the creater hadnt posted since 2005. But never fear I had a plan B, so i typed that in and yet again it was taken. With utter despair I also looked up this blog and found the girl hadnt posted since 2007 because she is now in JAIL! But luckily she felt that this experience would give her quite a good chance to reflect on herself and the person she wanted to become, I think its a pity she didnt continue with the blog it would have been quite an interesting read following her journey on the inside...I assume they dont have the internet in jails though?
This made me quite worried that my blog to would fade into oblivion (hopefully not because i go to jail) but because there are soooooo many blogs out there and so many interesing and talented people out there writing them.
So finally I have landed on "Time after tea" that is because my favourite thing to do is sit down with a cup of tea and read peoples blogs and I find long after the tea is gone I am still sitting there reading away.
